SUNSPOT

$10.00

Showcasing bright, gorgeous hand-dyed yarn by Portland-based Teal Torch Knits, Sunspot is a celebration of vibrant PNW summers and the sunshine that we so dearly miss in fall and winter!

This top is knit in two parts, starting with a provisional cast on in the middle (natural waist) and then working upward toward the chest and i-cord straps. Then the provisionally cast on stitches are picked up and you’ll work down toward the hem. A sunburst lace motif appears on both the front and back, making this top light and airy and super comfy for warm weather!

Needles:
US 2/2.75mm (or size needed to obtain gauge) circular needles in 32-47”/80-120cm (or preferred length for knitting garments in the round), or size needed to obtain gauge
US 3/3.25mm circular needles in same length as main needles, or one size larger than main needles (optional; for bind off)

Tools: Crochet hook same or similar size as main needles for provisional cast on (if doing crochet method), long length of scrap yarn for provisional cast on (if doing long-tail method), straight needles in same size as main needles (optional), scrap yarn/stitch holders, stitch markers, tapestry needle

Gauge:
24 sts x 36 rows = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm) in lace pattern in the round, after washing and blocking
27 sts x 40 rows = 4” x 4” (10cm x 10cm) in flat stockinette, after washing and blocking

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT GAUGE: During testing, test knitters’ experience in obtaining lace gauge varied widely, especially if they swatched only in stockinette. Needle sizes ranged from US 0 to US 6! I very highly recommend doing a lace swatch to determine your needle size. This extra bit of work in the beginning could save you from having your top turn out far too big.

SKILLS
Provisional cast on, lace knitting, increasing and decreasing, i-cord, German short rows, seaming
